There’s much fanfare about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 lately, and for good reason. We’re all anxiously waiting for early access to the Beta to drop so that we can see how this new game stacks up to what we expect from Activision. Thanks to a recent leak on Amazon, we might not have to wait long at all for a first look at the next chapter in the Modern Warfare story.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. This, on its own, is not what tells us that we could be seeing early access to the beta soon. But, have a look at the product description:

Beta Code Offer Qualifier

Pre-Order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II for any platform by October 28, 2022, to unlock early access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Beta. Must be shipped and sold by Amazon. Codes will be sent 72 hours after pre-order. Here’s how (restrictions apply).’

The fact that the codes are going to be sent by the 28th of October to those who purchase Call of Duty: MWII from Amazon shows that the 28th is the official launch date. However, 72 hours after pre-order means the Beta could release within the next few weeks.

It wouldn’t make much sense to send codes to players on a particular day for a game that won’t be playable on that day. It doesn’t matter which version of the soon-to-be-released game you click on either; the message is the same across the board on Amazon.

Another thing that the store listing stipulates is that the beta will launch first for PlayStation platforms. We had an expectation that this would be the case, but we haven’t had any official promotional material from either Activision or Infinity Ward speaking to that fact.

The leaked reveal trailer for Modern Warfare II did mention that there would be five days of early access to the Open Beta on PlayStation consoles, but this information didn’t make it into the official promotional content, which was uploaded later the same day. This, unsurprisingly, spawned a little confusion as to the nature of the beta’s release as it pertains to PlayStation consoles.

We can therefore expect more concrete information from the publisher sometime soon. In the meantime, however, here are the details you may have missed concerning Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s reveal.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
